Top cop who posed as Bank of Uganda official, defrauded investor US$ 500, coughed US$ 10, 000 to free self from Police cells finally sacked

On October 19, 2022; we exclusive carried a story of Divisional Community Liaison Officer – Central Police Station – Kampala – ASP Emmanuel Ssempijja after he was arrested over fraud.

Deep throat sources told Kampala Gazette that Ssempijja’s arrest was in connection with obtaining US$ 500 under false pretense.

At the time we filed the story, Ssempijja was being detained at Railway Police Station.

According to our story published November 29, 2022; Ssempijja impersonated the Head of Security at BoU and defrauded an investor US$ 500 in a fake procurement deal.

New Development

Kampala Gazette has exclusively obtained that Ssempijja has been fired from CPS and recalled to Naguru pending investigation. Deep-throat sources note that the sacking on Monday was prompted by our stories.  

“The Police leadership followed the story and carried out their own background checks. Basing on what they found out, SSempijja has been recalled to Naguru pending investigation. That is part of the Force’s zero tolerance to corruption,” a source in position of authority says.

In the same changes, ASP David Mwebaze, the Community Liaisons Officer – CLO – Kampala Metropolitan Area has been dropped and sent to the Chief Political Commissar – CPC – based at the Police Headquarters in Naguru.
