Arsenal fan, police officer arrested as Crime Intelligence silences cattle theft in Savannah Region
A fan of an English Premier League club, Arsenal, and a police officer are among the suspects in the theft of cattle in the Savannah Region.
This is according to a “Progressive Report on Successful Arrests in Cases of Stealing Cattle in the Savannah Region” released by Police on Tuesday.
The report
Case 1
A case of stealing cattle was registered by Mwesigye James, a resident of Kyabaganga village wabinyonyi in Nakasongola District, where 03 cows were stolen in the night of 10/9/2024 by unknown men and transported then using MV Reg. No. UBP 060M Toyota Alphad white in color. Flying squad Saravannah, jointly with the territorial police, mounted an intelligence operation that led to the arrest of the key suspects, namely Senyonga Eric and Kwizera Frank, and impounded the said MV Reg No. UBP 060M. Upon interview, three cows were recovered hidden in Kiryandongo District. Suspects were taken convicted to 3 years imprisonment from Nakasongola Government Prison.
Case 2
Magezi Richard of kibonga village kamira sub-county Luwero District registered a case of stealing his 10 Boran cows by his workers together with other suspects, this matter was investigated under CRB 560/2024 LWR, Flying squad savannah mounted an intelligence led operation which yielded into the arrest of Mukiibi Hussein ( master minder), Kato Emmanuel, Katabarwa Miiro, Katarega Ivan, Kezimbira sam, Kagumaho, Muwada who were thoroughly interviewed and admitted for having actively participated in committing the crime, the stolen cows were confirmed sold in kaleirwe abattoir Kampala, however police managed to recover Ten million shillings from the suspects as proceeds of the stolen cows and it was exhibited to that effect, 07 suspects were committed to high court and remanded to Nakasongola Government Prison.
Case 3
A case of stealing cattle, vide CRB 685/2024 LUWERO, is being investigated where two suspects, one Byarugaba Reagan and Sunday Sekidde, stole one cow belonging to Kigozi Cleopus, a resident of Kiwunda village Kabunyata parish in Luwero District. The flying squad, jointly with the territorial police, traced and arrested the above-mentioned suspects and recovered the meat of the suspected stolen cow while being transported for sale in Butuntumula trading center on motorcycle Reg. No. UFY 619K Bajaj. Suspects were remanded to Butuntumula Government Prison.
Case 4
A general inquiry file was opened up to investigate circumstances surrounding the rampant cases of stealing cattle. Flying squad Savannah mounted an intelligence-led operation that led to the arrest of Sebaale Steven, Masereka Chrispus, and Muwamba James; however, the key suspects, namely Kirumira Abdu, Buyinza Andrew, Segunja Steven, and others, are still on the run. Two motor vehicles that were being used by thugs to transport stolen cows were impounded and parked at police to aid investigations, i.e., UBJ 575A Toyota Wish, UBD 118A Alphad, and UAU 389U. During the operation, 03 cows were recovered; this operation is still ongoing.
