Fake news: Police dismiss reports of alleged theft of relief food in Karamoja

The Police has described as fake news reports of theft of relief food in Karamoja.
Social media reports earlier indicated that the said food was stolen from Moroto.
However, according to Regional Police Spokesperson, Mike Longole, “Police in Karamoja have not registered any case of theft of food supplied by the Government of Uganda to the vulnerable population.”
However, he said, “there was suspicion raised by some vigilant community members over 16 bags of food that were offloaded in Camp Swahili Juu, south Division, Moroto Municipality on 20/7/2022, which was meant for nearby villages.”
“Police were notified and took over the security of the storage room where this food was being kept and ensured that it was delivered to its rightful owners on 21/7/2022,” Longole said. He urged the communities to ignore the allegations of theft being peddled around.
“The police would like to applaud members of the community who reported this matter for their increased level of vigilance, helping security and leaders in ensuring the food relief reaches and benefits only the targeted population,” Longole said.
