Isaa Otoo Amiza, Patrick Ogwang Obura, Pr. Chris Morris Ongom, Patrick Obong, and Nelson Adea Akar will have a reason to return to Oyam South in a fight of men to represent the electorates in the 12th Parliament of Uganda.

Kampala Gazette has it on good record that Gender Minister Betty Amongi has made up her mind to switch representation to Lira City in what appears to be an upgrade of her status. Amongi is married to lawmaker Jimmy Akena, a resident of Lira City. Using this opportunity, Amongi will look to defeat Health Minister Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng. As early as 2023, well-placed sources say Amongi has moved steps ahead in mobilizing for votes ahead of the 2026 parliamentary polls.

“Hon. Amongi is funding women in business with at least Shs 2 million per business,” a source says. Recently, she showed off her financial muscle when she supported the Lango football team, currently participating in the FUFA Drum, with nearly Shs 4 million. Dr. Aceng remains financially silent, perhaps waiting to remind voters how hard she worked to kick COVID-19 away from Uganda. “Away from Hon. Amongi, Dr. Aceng too supports the women. Recently, she cleared the electricity bill for the main market. As you know, more women occupy that market,” another source says.

With this background, Lira City is a hotspot worth monitoring as the country’s electoral body executes the roadmap leading to the general polls in 2026.
