LIRA: How businessman killed son in fight for a gun

The territorial Police in Lira-City CPS are investigating circumstances under which Ogwang Haji Joe, aged 57, a businessman and a resident of Ireda Estate in Lira-City East Division shot his biological son identified as Okello Haron dead.
This incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon at Camp Swahili Cell Lira-City East Division.
It’s alleged that at around 14:45hours while Ogwang was at Tipper stage going about his daily business, he was confronted by Okello, his biological son, demanding for money.
in the process of the confrontation, Okello tried to disarm his father of a pistol in his possession and in self defence the father (Ogwang) discharged a bullet which injured him, he was later rushed to Lira Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. Preliminary findings indicates that Okello was an army deserter and a drug abuser.
Regional Police Spokesperson Patrick Jimmy Okema confirmed the incident.
He said a case has been filed under CRB 1002/2023 while Pistol No UG IND 99702870 with 5 rounds of ammunition has been recovered and exhibited.
“We are yet to a certain weather he acquired the pistol legally through the license he holds. Suspect handed over himself to police and is in detention at Lira-City CPS as investigation continues,” Okema said in a statement Tuesday.
By press time, the body was at Lira Regional Referral Hospital mortuary pending postmortem.
