MK Movement: Man cons over 200, collects fees using Gen. Muhoozi’s name
The Directorate of Crime Intelligence, in coordination with CID in Gulu, arrested and charged to court one Iguma Mubarak, aged 33, for impersonation and obtaining money by false pretense from over 200 people in Elegu while posing as a member of the MK Movement, whereas he was not. Over 200 people were defrauded by him in Elegu, especially boda boda riders, taxi operators, market vendors, and salon and bar operators, after he promised that he would link them up to Gen. Muhoozi Kaneirugaba (Gen. MK) for support.
Police Spokesman Fred Enanga says that efforts are also in place to trace his other accomplice, Abdul Karim Matovu, who is on the run.
Documents recovered on him, upon search, show he made false statements while using the MK Movement Constitution and Membership Cards, which he issued to the victims after they paid membership fees.
“We would like to commend the D/CI and Gulu CID for their outstanding work. The arrest will serve as a great warning to fraudsters and con artists who use false identities and misrepresentations to defraud innocent victims. He was charged before the Chief Magistrates Courts in Gulu,” said Enanga.
