A police officer whose gun was used in the murder of an Indian money-lender Friday afternoon has been arrested.

The suspect has been identified as PC Steven Mulambo.

Mulambo is said to have let his gun at the barracks and rushed home to attend to his sick child. His roommate, PC Ivan Wabwire picked the gun and went to Raja Plaza from where he killed Uttam Bhandari, a money-lender in Kampala. Wabwire then took the gun to the Central Police Station in Kampala and dropped it there.

The suspect is still on the run but a team has been setup to track him, Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, Patrick Onyango says.

By press time, Mulambo was being detained at the Special Investigations Directorate in Kireka.
