The UPDF Court Martial sitting Wednesday convicted three army officers for assaulting a traffic officer on duty.
The incident happened in May near Mukwano mall along Kyaggwe road at Kiseka market, when military police officers driving a green vehicle registration number D02DF08P ordered the traffic officer to clear the way for them in vain leading to a scuffle.
The incident was captured on camera and its video footage widely shared on social media.
Now, well-placed sources say that three officers were yesterday convicted to a year, 4 months and 2 months in jail, in addition to community service respectively.
“I can only confirm to you that three officers were charged yesterday before the court martial,” an army source confirmed without naming the officers.
The UPDF is yet to release an official statement in regards to Wednesday sitting but following the incident, the Defense Ministry Spokesperson, Brig Gen. Flex Kulayigye told the media that the investigations would establish what transpired at the scene, adding that whoever would be found in the wrong would be handled according to the law.
