Dodoth West MP Hit with Defilement Scandal
By Davis Mugabi
Dodoth County Member of Parliament finds himself in trouble after an allegation of defilement is placed against him.
Hon. Baatom Ben Koryang is accused of defiling a 14-year-old girl.
It is alleged that Hon. Koryang defiled the girl two years ago, an act that left her pregnant. A source tells the Kampala Gazette that the victim went on to give birth to a baby boy.
Since then, her parents have moved to all concerned authorities, but they have failed to get justice. At first, they opened a case of defilement at Kaabong Police Division in Karamoja region, but since the case was against an influential person and an MP (at that), the case was frustrated.
The father of the girl, Mr. Paul Oryem, narrated to this media house that “our daughter was still in primary school when she was defiled.”
“We suffered with her until she gave birth. We have tried to reach Hon. Ben Koryang but in vain,” the victim’s father says.
He accuses the police of frustrating the case because the “MP is a close friend to one of the ministers.”
It is against this background that the case was recently transferred to CID headquarters in Kibuli for proper investigation.
Local sources in Kaabong narrate that the horny Hon. Koryang first denied having impregnated the schoolgoing girl, but the boy he hired as a go between revealed everything to the girl’s parents, saying the lawmaker was responsible for the pregnancy.
The source added that, after protests from leaders and elders, a team was dispatched from Kampala to Dodoth under Genera Enquiry File GEF12/2023 of CID headquarters in Kibuli to compile more evidence to see to it that if it meets prosecutorial standard before the file is sent to the DPP for further advice.
Police Spokesperson Fred Enanga confirmed the incident.
Enanga says that the parents of the victim filed a complaint with the Director of CID after the case was mismanaged by Kaabong.
When contacted for a comment, Hon. Koryang denied the allegations and stated that he is ready to take on whoever is tarnishing his name.
In the meantime, we have learned that the alleged victim is undergoing psycho-social support at an NGO in Kampala as her parents and community leaders pursue the matter to its logical conclusion.
