Fine Spinners Uganda Limited, a company in charge of supplying Museveni snow-white cotton shirts

Days ago, there were reports in the media that the State House spends about Shs 350 million on the President’s clothes per year.

The media picked the story from the floor of Parliament when Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda (MP, Kira Municipality) brought it up.

“There is Shs350 million to buy clothes. The same amount was provided last year. This means, we are spending on average Shs1 million on the President’s clothes every day,” Ssemujju said while referring to the Minority Report.

President Yoweri Museveni is not just a lover of cotton materials but white as a colour.

His whites are mainly in shirts.

We have reliably obtained that the President shops from Fine Spinners Uganda Limited, a Bugolobi-based company.

While the Kampala Gazette is not sure how much the President spends on one shirt (alone), we are only sure about the quality the company makes in terms of clothing.

The company takes in some of the best cotton in the world:  a rain-fed crop grown in Western Uganda by “committed farmers with expert support.”

They provide the infrastructure and expertise to process the cotton locally, maximizing farmer prices, value-adding the local economy and producing world class, 100% African, sustainable, traceable garments.

Fine Spinners also export the products to the world’s leading retailers and brands.

In 2018, Linda Nabusayi, the President’s former Press Secretary told the Daily Monitor that President Museveni has four attires in his wardrobe.
Through her twitter handle, @lindahNabusayi, she explained that Museveni dons a yellow and white shirt for his daily work and a suit for national and foreign schedules. She also indicated that the president’s attires are made in Jinja District in a bid to promote the Buy Uganda Build (BUBU) strategy launched last year to promote locally made products.

“Did you know President Kaguta Museveni has only 4 attires in his wardrobe all year…well almost. Yellow and white shirts for daily work. A suit for national and foreign schedules and army for anything related to security,” Nabusayi tweeted.

In 2017, President Museveni made a surprise stop in Wandegeya, a Kampala suburb to buy a pair of shoes from a vendor, an incident that left the shop attendant astonished.
